REGENT is building the first electric flying machine that will transport commercial passengers.  With a vehicle that never flies higher than a few meters off the water, we unlock the ability to fly twice as far as an electric aircraft, and certification by maritime authorities which will let us fly first passengers within 5 years.

As the Structures Engineering Lead you will help lead the development of the composite vehicle structures of REGENT’s seaglider vehicles. This role requires an intimate knowledge of composites design and analysis as well as the materials systems available to fabricate cutting edge aero and marine structures. Someone in this role should be able to have the skill sets to encompass the entire development cycle of a composite assembly including the design of monolithic and cored components as part of a bonded assembly, able to perform both hand calculations and FEA and understand when appropriate to implement either, design tooling, create CAD models and drawing, layup parts, trim, drill, and bond components and complete structural validation load tests culminating in supporting integration efforts at the vehicle level. With those skills candidates will also be responsible for helping to build a team of structures design engineers, stress analysts, test engineers and fabricators while also developing process and procedure regarding engineering approaches along side other lead engineers at REGENT.  

Required Skills

  • Strong organization and communication skills, willingness to learn and teach and work with professionals from varying backgrounds across engineering and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Biased towards action while maintaining a focus on safety and quality
  • 10+ years of experience in applicable aerospace field
  • Expert experience with a CAD package, Siemens NX or CATIA is desired.
  • Experience with analytical software for completing FEA on both composite and metallic structures using programs such as ANSYS products, FEMAP or NASTRAN
  • Solid foundation in statics and mechanics and the underlying principles of finite element analysis. 
  • Experience having designed, built and tested composite structures for aerospace applications. 
  • Includes design of tooling and hands on layup experience
  • Familiar with writing test plans and reports for conducting tests ranging from bonded assembly load tests, coupon tests, and processes for destructive and non-destructive inspection.
  • Hands on experience and familiarity with shop tools and their proper use as well as best practices for manufacturing components utilizing CNC machining and additive manufacturing. 
  • A strong M&P engineering background is highly desired such that candidates have a high degree of familiarity with varying composite fiber and resin systems and fabrication processes including use of OOA and autoclaved prepregs, wet layup and VARTM with varying modulus carbon fiber, fiberglass, aramid along with the appropriate tooling materials and system required to process them.

Preferred Skills

  • BS/MS in mechanical, structural or aerospace engineering
  • A strong interest in staying apprised of material science advances such as CNT, thermoplastics, epoxies and coatings, Z-axis oriented fibers, CVD metallic coated fibers, hybrid laminates (GLARE, TiGRE, etc) and the like. 
  • Experience using MATLAB/Simulink, Python or other programming tools for varying purposes ranging from data reduction to analysis/simulation
  • Experience with composite structures for marine or automotive vehicles
  • Experience working with high power electric propulsion systems and power electronics
  • Prototyping and production manufacturing experience
  • FAA pilot’s license or boating/sailing experience


Boston, Massachusetts area. Relocation available if required.
