At REGENT, we're building Seagliders — wing-in-ground effect vessels that operate in three modes: float, foil, and fly. You load a Seaglider on its hull, it rises on hydrofoils, and ultimately takes off, flying over a cushion of air.
Seagliders bridge the gap between traditional air and maritime cargo, providing faster speeds than legacy ships while keeping costs lower than traditional aircraft. Our full-scale prototype is currently being tested in Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island.
Seagliders present a compelling opportunity to improve coastal middle-mile logistics, offering up to 180 miles of range at speeds up to 180 miles per hour. We have Seagliders headed to Europe and the Middle East, with enormous enthusiasm and orders coming from Asia-Pacific. Key players in the cargo sector are taking notice — including Yamato Transport in Japan, which has invested in REGENT, and DHL in the UAE, with whom we have recently signed an MOU to explore incorporating Seagliders into their operations.
With 40% of the world's population living on or near the coast and so much dock infrastructure remaining underutilized, this platform is perfectly positioned to open up new opportunities and access to customers around the world. Seagliders are the best combination of everything we love about maritime and aviation — and they certify as a boat.
We see Seagliders as a key part of a multimodal logistics network, and we are excited to see them operating soon in a port near you. That's a dream we are fast turning into a reality.
